Scotland’s largest law firm is to build on the success of last year’s Tennis Greats at Gleneagles by hosting a new Brodies Invitational tennis tournament at Gleneagles Hotel on the 10/11 June.
British tennis greats, Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski, and Grand Slam finalists Thomas Enqvist and Cédric Pioline will battle it out over four matches during the two-day festival of tennis at the hotel’s indoor arena, the venue for last year’s star-studded tennis event jointly organised by Brodies and Gleneagles.
Tim Henman, the former world No 4 and six times Grand Slam semi-finalist, said: “I can’t wait to compete in Scotland again. Andy Murray’s success has had a tremendous impact on Scottish tennis and we all hope that the Brodies Invitational will help encourage young people from across the country to pick up a racquet and get involved. While there will be fun on court and an opportunity for sports fans to soak up the pre-Wimbledon atmosphere, make no mistake – our passion for the game is as strong as ever and we’re all out to win.”
The tournament also aims to encourage grass-roots involvement in the game. Supported by Gleneagles, Tennis Scotland and Judy Murray, the Brodies Invitational will see the legends compete with Scotland’s most talented junior players, join Judy and local schoolchildren in a ‘Tennis on the Road’ session, and help raise money for the Elena Baltacha Foundation, which aims to give children from all backgrounds the opportunity to take part in the sport.
Judy said: “I’m delighted to be an ambassador for the Brodies Invitational tournament, and to help bring more world class tennis to Scotland. There’s a fabulous line-up of former champions coming to the Gleneagles Arena, which is great news for tennis fans. And some of our most promising juniors will be on show too. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the kids to rub shoulders with some of the world’s greats and play in front of a big crowd.”
Bill Drummond, Managing Partner of Brodies, said: “Given the popularity of Tennis Greats at Gleneagles last year, we wanted to build on that success and are delighted that Tim, Greg, Thomas and Cédric will be competing in the Brodies Invitational. We hope the tournament will further enhance Scotland’s reputation as a world-class sporting destination, give business people from across Scotland a fun environment in which to network, and allow tennis fans of all ages to share in the excitement of watching these great sportsmen show off their skills. “With right-handed, left-handed and double and single-hand backhand skills on show from some of the best exponents of serve and volley and the base-line game of their day, there will be something for every fan and budding player to enjoy.”
David Marshall, Chief Executive Officer of Tennis Scotland, added: “This will be a fantastic event that once again demonstrates the current high profile of the game in this country. Giving some of our top juniors the opportunity to compete against guys who not that long ago were up there among the best in the world will be hugely beneficial for their development and will undoubtedly encourage others to play more tennis more often.”
Tickets for the Brodies Invitational are priced £39.50 for adults and £20 for children.
